BEIJING, Feb. 24 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.87 percent to 4,117.41 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.36 percent higher at 14,291.57 points.
The combined turnover of these two indices totaled around 2.2 trillion yuan (about 317.24 billion U.S. dollars), up from 1.98 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Stocks in the oil and gas exploration and services as well as precious metals led the gains, while cinema and film, Sora-related and artificial-intelligence training data stocks were among the top laggards.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.99 percent to close at 3,308.26 points.
The STAR Composite Index, which reflects the performance of stocks on China's sci-tech innovation board, closed 0.61 percent lower at 1,798.21 points. ■
