HANOI, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam recorded 381 traffic accidents nationwide during the nine-day Lunar New Year holiday from Feb. 14 to Feb. 22, resulting in 230 deaths and 274 injuries, Vietnam News Agency reported Sunday.
According to the report, the numbers of accidents, fatalities and injuries decreased by 28.79 percent, 23.2 percent and 30.1 percent year on year, respectively.
Of the total, 378 accidents occurred on roads, leaving 224 people dead and 274 others injured, the report added.
During the holiday period, traffic police inspected and handled about 76,000 violations. Authorities temporarily revoked nearly 2,500 driver's licenses, while more than 16,000 cases saw demerit points deducted. About 26,300 violations involved alcohol-related offenses, the report said. ■
