BAGHDAD, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) -- Iraq's Counter-Terrorism Service (CTS) said on Monday that it arrested two Islamic State (IS) militants and destroyed several of their hideouts during security operations.
The arrests were made during two separate operations in Babil and Kirkuk provinces, based on precise intelligence and judicial warrants, the CTS said.
It also carried out an extensive search and combing operation in the mountainous area in Salahuddin province, which destroyed several "terrorist (IS) hideouts, dens and temporary shelters."
The security situation in Iraq has improved since the defeat of the IS in 2017. However, IS remnants have sneaked into urban centers, deserts, and rugged areas, carrying out frequent guerrilla attacks against security forces and civilians. ■
