GAZA/ADEN, Yemen, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) -- Palestinian factions and Yemen's internationally recognized government on Sunday condemned remarks by U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee that Israeli has right to claim control over the entire Middle East.
In a press statement, the Follow-up Committee of the National and Islamic Forces, which includes the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and the Islamic Jihad Movement, said it strongly condemns Huckabee's remarks, which "represent the height of religious extremism and pose a real threat to security and stability in the region."
The committee said the remarks "encourage wars, domination and occupation," adding that they "amount to a reproduction of false claims and myths underpinning a colonial narrative that fuels extremism and has been a key factor behind the historical injustice inflicted upon the Palestinian people."
Meanwhile, Yemen's Foreign Ministry said in a statement that Huckabee's remarks violated international law and represent "an infringement on the sovereignty of states."
The ministry said such statements pose a threat to regional security and stability. It reaffirmed Yemen's support for the Palestinian people's legitimate rights, foremost the establishment of an independent state in accordance with international resolutions and the two-state solution.
In an interview with American podcaster Tucker Carlson posted on Friday, Huckabee said Israel has a "biblical right" to claim control over the entire Middle East, or at least most of the region. His remarks drew immediate condemnation from regional countries. ■
