ISLAMABAD, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) -- Three security personnel were killed and two others injured in a quadcopter strike on a paramilitary fort in Pakistan's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Monday, security sources said.

The attack took place at around 9:50 a.m. local time (0450 GMT) on a Frontier Constabulary fort located in Karak district, the sources told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

Officials said militants launched the quadcopter strike from nearby mountain peaks, triggering crossfire between the attackers and the security personnel deployed at the fort.

Five soldiers were injured in the attack, and in a subsequent development, militants opened fire on ambulances while the injured personnel were being shifted to hospital, killing three of them, officials added.

The attackers fled the scene, and security forces have launched an operation in the area to track down the attackers, officials said.
