NEW DELHI, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- Four people belonging to the same family died in India's northern state of Uttar Pradesh when the private vehicle they were travelling in fell into a water body late on Friday night, confirmed the local police on Saturday.
The mishap occurred in Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur district. Among the dead were a two-year-old child and two women.
The victims were returning home from a function at their relative's house.
According to the police, the ill-fated vehicle was being driven at a high speed, and the driver suddenly lost control of the vehicle, as a result of which it fell into the pond.
There were 11 people inside the vehicle when the mishap occurred. The rest were rescued and later admitted to a local hospital. The driver fled from the scene, and local police were on the lookout for him. ■
