BUENOS AIRES, Feb. 19 (Xinhua) -- Striker Rodrigo Castillo scored late as Argentina's Lanus edged toward its first Recopa Sudamericana title with a 1-0 home win over Brazilian side Flamengo in the final's first leg on Thursday.
Castillo broke the deadlock in the 77th minute at Ciudad de Lanus Stadium by meeting Sasha Marcich's cross with a bullet header that left goalkeeper Agustin Rossi with no chance.
Flamengo controlled almost two-thirds of possession but managed only one shot on goal for the night.
The second leg will be played at Rio de Janeiro's Maracana Stadium next Thursday.
Flamengo, which is aiming for its second Recopa title, earned a spot in the title decider by winning last year's Copa Libertadores, South America's premier club competition.
Lanus advanced as the champion of the Copa Sudamericana, the equivalent of the UEFA Europa League. ■
