QUITO, Feb. 18 (Xinhua) -- Mario Godoy resigned as president of Ecuador's Judicial Council on Wednesday, shortly before the National Assembly was set to open a political trial against him over alleged ineffective management.
Godoy announced his irrevocable resignation in a letter posted on X, saying it had been an honor to serve the institution and the country in the position.
In the letter, Godoy maintained that his decisions were aimed at consolidating a technical, modern justice system that serves citizens.
Following his resignation, the National Assembly may only proceed with a potential censure, since removal from office is no longer applicable. ■
