BEIRUT/JERUSALEM, Feb. 16 (Xinhua) -- An Israeli airstrike in southern Lebanon on Monday killed a Hezbollah member, in what the Israeli military described as a response to violations of a fragile ceasefire by the group.
The strike targeted a car in the village of Talloussah in the Marjeyoun district, according to Lebanon's official National News Agency.
Lebanese security sources told Xinhua that the victim was Ahmad Termos, a Hezbollah member.
The Israeli military also confirmed it struck a Hezbollah operative in the area.
Earlier on Monday, a separate Israeli airstrike killed a man in the nearby municipality of Hanin.
A U.S.- and French-brokered ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel has been in effect since Nov. 27, 2024, ending months of hostilities linked to the war in the Gaza Strip.
Despite the agreement, the Israeli army continues to carry out occasional strikes in Lebanon, claiming they are aimed at removing Hezbollah "threats." Israeli forces have also maintained a presence at five key positions along the Lebanese border area after a full withdrawal deadline passed on Feb. 18 last year. ■
