ISTANBUL, Feb. 17 (Xinhua) -- Turkish police detained 13 people on Tuesday for allegedly promoting the Islamic State (IS) on social media and providing financial support to its members, authorities said.

The detentions came as part of an investigation into suspected IS propaganda and fundraising activities linked to members of the group in Iraq and Syria, according to the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. The nationalities of the suspects were not disclosed.

Simultaneous operations were conducted at multiple locations in Istanbul and the southern province of Adana, the statement said.

Authorities said the suspects were connected through money transfers to an account allegedly used to collect funds under the guise of aid for IS members and their families.

The funds were allegedly sent to IS-linked detainees and their families held in camps in northeastern Syria, including Roj and al-Hol, as well as Rusafa prison in Iraq, it added.

Prosecutors also issued arrest warrants for two additional suspects believed to be abroad.

Türkiye has launched frequent nationwide operations against IS in recent years.
