BEIRUT/JERUSALEM, Feb. 16 (Xinhua) -- One person was killed on Monday morning in an Israeli airstrike on the municipality of Hanin in southern Lebanon, local media reported.

Mohammad Tahsin Hussein Qashqash was preparing to start the van he owned, which was parked in front of his house alongside his SUV, to transport students to their schools when the attack occurred, according to Lebanon's official National News Agency (NNA).

The NNA reported that the Israeli drone fired several missiles at him, resulting in his death and the burning of both vehicles.

Israel's military confirmed the incident in a statement on the same day, saying it has eliminated a "terrorist" in Hanin, who was allegedly involved in efforts to re-establish Hezbollah infrastructure, describing the activity as a violation of ceasefire understandings between Israel and Lebanon.

A ceasefire agreement between Hezbollah and Israel has been in effect since Nov. 27, 2024. Despite the agreement, Israel has continued to carry out occasional strikes in Lebanon, claiming they are aimed at eliminating Hezbollah "threats."
