DAR ES SALAAM, Feb. 15 (Xinhua) -- Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan on Sunday met with United Nations Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where she reaffirmed Tanzania's commitment to deepening cooperation with the UN in advancing sustainable development, the Directorate of Presidential Communications said in a statement.
During the talks, President Hassan reiterated Tanzania's determination to continue implementing economic and administrative reforms while strengthening collaboration with the UN in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These efforts particularly focus on sectors directly impacting citizens' livelihoods, such as health, education, clean water, sanitation, and poverty reduction, the statement said.
Hassan commended the UN and its agencies for their continued diplomatic and development support to Tanzania across various sectors, according to the statement.
For her part, Mohammed praised Tanzania's longstanding record of peace and stability, describing the country as "a model of peace in Africa." She also acknowledged President Hassan's efforts in strengthening institutions and promoting dialogue and reconciliation.
The two leaders also discussed UN system reforms, youth participation in development, and the importance of enhanced coordination between the African Union and the United Nations, the statement added. ■
