Mongolian banking sector's net foreign assets rise by 31.5 pct in January

ULAN BATOR, Feb. 13 (Xinhua) -- The Mongolian banking sector's net foreign assets increased by 31.5 percent year-on-year to reach 8.8 trillion Mongolian tugriks (2.4 billion U.S. dollars) in January 2026, the country's National Statistics Office (NSO) said on Friday.

During the period, the net domestic assets of Mongolia's banks totaled 38 trillion tugriks (10.65 billion dollars), which represents a rise of 10.7 percent year-on-year.

Meanwhile, the cumulative savings within Mongolian commercial banks demonstrated a robust performance, reaching a total volume of 26 trillion tugriks (7.29 billion dollars) by the end of January 2026.

It is noted that Mongolian tugrik savings experienced a substantial uptick, soaring 20 percent, while dollar savings exhibited a more modest rise of 16.1 percent.

Currently, there are about 1,500 branches of 12 commercial banks operating in Mongolia.
