PHNOM PENH, Feb. 13 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia is committed to eliminating online scam networks by April 2026, as more than 7,000 online scam suspects have been deported so far, said a spokesperson on Friday.
The Southeast Asian country has launched an unprecedented nationwide crackdown on cyber scam networks to maintain social security, safety, and public order, and to restore the kingdom's image on the international stage.
The government "has set a deadline to completely eradicate online scam networks in Cambodia by April 2026," Ministry of Interior Spokesperson Touch Sokhak said in a press briefing.
He said that since 2025 to date, the kingdom has expelled 7,657 online scam suspects back to their birth countries.
Of them, more than 5,500 were deported throughout 2025, and over 2,000 were expelled in just over a month in 2026, he added. ■
