BEIJING, Feb. 12 (Xinhua) -- China believes a two-state solution is the fundamental way to resolve the Palestinian question, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said on Thursday, adding that China has consistently opposed the construction of new settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories.
Lin made the remarks at a regular news briefing when asked to comment on measures Israel has adopted to strengthen its control in the occupied West Bank and facilitate its settlement expansion.
Noting that Gaza and the West Bank are inalienable parts of Palestinian territory, Lin said China opposes all attempts to annex or encroach upon Palestinian territory, or to undermine the political foundation of the two-state solution.
He said the current situation in Gaza remains highly fragile, and that relevant parties should cease taking any actions that exacerbate conflict or heighten tensions. ■
