BISHKEK, Feb. 12 (Xinhua) -- Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu, speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh (Kyrgyzstan's parliament), announced his decision to resign during a parliamentary session on Thursday, the parliament's official website said.
Turgunbek uulu said that "certain political disagreements" have recently occurred in the country.
"Today, I have decided to voluntarily step down as Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh of Kyrgyzstan. This is my personal decision," he said.
Turgunbek uulu emphasized the importance of fully implementing the political reforms initiated by Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov and preserving political stability in the country. "Guided by patriotism and the interests of the state, I have made this decision," he said.
Turgunbek uulu added that he is ready to continue serving the country as an ordinary member of parliament.
The 48-year-old lawmaker was elected to parliament in 2021. He was first elected speaker in October 2022 and was re-elected to the post in December 2025. ■
