BEIRUT, Feb. 10 (Xinhua) -- Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem on Tuesday vowed continued confrontation to prevent Israel from consolidating power or borders in the region, local media reported.

Speaking at a memorial ceremony, Qassem said in a speech aired on al-Manar TV channel that Hezbollah is confronting Israel, describing it as "a cancerous entity."

He accused the United States and Western countries of seeking to legitimize "the occupation" and strip Palestinians of their rights.

The Hezbollah leader added that the resistance has withstood Israel for 42 years, "liberating" land and preventing Israeli domination, stressing that Lebanon's strength and future depend on maintaining the resistance as a pillar alongside the state.

Hezbollah and Israel engaged in cross-border fighting following the outbreak of the Gaza conflict in October 2023.

A ceasefire agreement between the two sides has been in effect since Nov. 27, 2024. Despite the agreement, Israel has continued to carry out occasional strikes in Lebanon, claiming they are aimed at eliminating Hezbollah threats.
