SAO PAULO, Feb. 9 (Xinhua) -- Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said Monday that the Brazilian government will keep multilateralism at the center of its foreign policy against any unilateral provocations by the United States.
At a ceremony of the Butantan Institute in Sao Paulo, Lula noted that the world cannot move forward without the collective mechanisms constructed after World War II.
"It was multilateralism after World War II that created harmony between states and allowed us to live in peace until now," he said.
Lula also said that they were not interested in unilateralism imposed by the principle of "might makes right."
The Brazilian president also noted that the South American country's international action does not involve direct confrontation, but rather prioritizes political discussion and the building of global consensuses. ■
