RIYADH, Feb. 10 (Xinhua) -- Senior Saudi and U.S. officials co-chaired a meeting in Riyadh on Monday aimed at "consolidating gains against the (ISIS/Daesh) terrorist organization and addressing urgent security challenges in Syria and Iraq."
Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister Waleed Elkhereiji opened the meeting, which was co-chaired by U.S. Ambassador to Türkiye and Special Envoy for Syria Tom Barrack, said the Saudi Foreign Ministry in a joint statement.
Participants welcomed what the statement described as the comprehensive agreement between the government of Syria and the Syrian Democratic Forces, including the permanent ceasefire and arrangements for the civil and military integration of northeast Syria.
The statement said participants reaffirmed their priorities, including the swift transfer and safeguarding of IS detainees, third-country repatriation, and the reintegration of families from displacement camps such as Al-Hol and Roj camps, and continued coordination with Damascus and Baghdad on the future of the coalition's campaign in Syria and Iraq.
They also reiterated their shared commitment to defeating ISIS/Daesh in Iraq and Syria and pledged continued support to both governments in securing IS-affiliated detainees, it said. ■
