CAIRO, Feb. 10 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty on Tuesday held a phone call with his Iranian counterpart Seyed Abbas Araghchi to discuss the U.S.-Iran nuclear talks, Egypt's Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Abdelatty expressed "Egypt's full support for the negotiations and all efforts aimed at de-escalation, supporting dialogue, and addressing all concerns through diplomatic and political channels."
The Egyptian foreign minister called for continuing the negotiation track between Washington and Tehran toward "a peaceful and consensual settlement" based on mutual respect and shared interests.
He underscored the need to overcome any differences at the current delicate stage and keep dialogue as the primary option to avoid escalation in the region.
Araghchi, for his part, praised Egypt's "active role" in reducing regional tensions and its efforts to foster understanding on the Iranian nuclear issue.
On Friday, Tehran and Washington held their first indirect talks in Muscat since the war between Iran and Israel in June 2025, during which the United States bombed Iranian nuclear sites.
Washington has recently signaled that military options remain possible should diplomatic efforts with Tehran fail, alongside reports of expanded U.S. naval deployments in the region, while Iranian officials have warned that any U.S. strike could spark a broader regional conflict. ■
