PREDAZZO, Italy, Feb. 9 (Xinhua) -- Philipp Raimund of Germany delivered a sensational final jump to claim gold in the men's normal hill ski jumping competition at the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics on Monday.
Poland's Kacper Tomasiak had set a high benchmark with 137.9 points in the penultimate jump, putting all the pressure on Raimund, who was the last to jump.
Rising to the occasion, the German, who had earned 135.6 points in the first jump, produced a remarkable 138.5 points - the highest of the day - securing the gold medal with a total of 274.1 points.
Tomasiak earned silver with 270.7 points, while Ren Nikaido of Japan and Switzerland's Gregor Deschwanden both scored 266 points, sharing the bronze medal. ■
