PHNOM PENH, Feb. 10 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia on Tuesday reported a positive increase in its foreign trade and investment volumes in January 2026.

The Southeast Asian country's international trade hit 6 billion U.S. dollars in January this year, up 19 percent compared to the same month last year, said a General Department of Customs and Excise's report.

The kingdom's total export amounted to 2.9 billion dollars in January this year, up 26.6 percent compared to January last year, while its total import rose to 3.1 billion dollars, up 12.8 percent, the report added.

China is the biggest trading partner of Cambodia, followed by the United States, Vietnam, Japan, and Thailand, the report said.

Meanwhile, the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) reported that the kingdom attracted fixed-asset investment of 752 million dollars in January this year, up 0.45 percent compared to the same month last year.

China remained the top investor in Cambodia last month, accounting for 35.9 percent of the investment capital in January 2026, the CDC's report said.

It added that the new projects were mainly focused on the establishment of special economic zones, a wind power plant, garment factories and food processing factories, among others.

Cambodian Ministry of Commerce's Secretary of State and Spokesperson Penn Sovicheat said the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) agreement and Cambodia's bilateral free trade agreements (FTAs) with China, South Korea, and the United Arab Emirates have been catalysts for the kingdom's trade and investment growth.

"With preferential tariffs granted by RCEP and other bilateral FTAs, we're confident that our exports to international markets, particularly to China and other RCEP member countries, will continue to soar throughout this year and beyond," he told Xinhua.
