NEW DELHI, Feb. 7 (Xinhua) -- At least six persons died and a couple of others were injured in a road mishap in India's northern state of Uttar Pradesh early on Saturday, a local police officer confirmed.

The road mishap occurred on the Yamuna Expressway connecting New Delhi to Uttar Pradesh, in Mathura district. The victims were standing by the roadside after alighting from the private bus they were travelling in, when a heavy vehicle hit them.

The bus was moving from New Delhi to Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh. Some passengers asked the driver to stop the bus as they wished to relieve themselves, and some others alighted from the bus and stood by the roadside.

Suddenly, a fast-moving heavy vehicle rammed into the stationary bus and then ran over the passengers standing by the roadside. While six people died instantly, a couple of others were injured and were admitted to a local hospital, according to the police officer.
