KABUL, Feb. 4 (Xinhua) -- The Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority reported on Wednesday that at least 87 people have been killed and 333 others injured due to landmine and explosive remnants blasts in 2025 across the country.

A total of 193 explosion incidents resulting from mine detonations and unexploded ordnance have been recorded across Afghanistan over the past year, said Hafiz Mohammad Yusuf Hammad, spokesman for the authority. He said that 67.5 percent of the total casualties were children.

Despite clearance operations that removed hazards from 58 square km of land during the same period, the official noted that more than 106,000 square km of Afghan territory remains contaminated with mines and unexploded ordnance.

The report underscores Afghanistan's status as one of the world's most severely affected nations by explosive remnants of war. The United Nations recently ranked the country third globally for casualties caused by landmines and unexploded ordnance.
