TEHRAN, Feb. 2 (Xinhua) -- A senior Iranian security official said on Monday that Tehran does not intend to send its enriched nuclear materials to any other country, according to the semi-official Fars news agency.
Ali Bagheri Kani, deputy for foreign policy at the secretariat of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, made the remarks after recent suggestions by Russia and Turkey that they could host or process Iran's enriched uranium to ease regional tensions.
The statement comes amid renewed diplomatic signals from both Tehran and Washington. Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said the country is reviewing the details and general outlines of the potential initiation of negotiations with the United States. Citing two sources with knowledge, U.S. online media outlet Axios reported that U.S. President's special envoy Steve Witkoff and Iran's Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi are expected to meet on Friday in Istanbul to discuss a possible nuclear deal.
These developments follow a period of heightened military tensions in West Asia and point toward renewed efforts to revive diplomatic talks. ■
