AMMAN, Feb. 1 (Xinhua) -- Jordan handled 13 drug-related cases and security campaigns over the past few days, arresting 35 suspects and seizing large quantities of drugs and firearms, the Public Security Directorate (PSD) said Sunday.
PSD spokesperson Amer Sartawi said that the Anti-Narcotics Department teams, in coordination with police directorates and the Gendarmerie forces, carried out security campaigns in several governorates in the country.
In the southern governorate of Ma'an, 10 wanted drug dealers and promoters were arrested.
Meanwhile, authorities handled seven major cases in the capital Amman, arresting suspects and seizing marijuana, crystal meth, and large quantities of illicit drug pills.
In Ramtha District in the northern parts of the country at the borders with Syria, a dealer was arrested with 1.5 kg of crystal meth seized, while three individuals were arrested with 4,000 drug pills seized in the northeastern governorate of Mafraq, said the spokesperson.
In January 2025, Jordan and Syria agreed to set up a joint security committee to secure their border, fight against arms and drug smuggling. ■
