BEIRUT, Jan. 31 (Xinhua) -- A Hezbollah member was killed Saturday in an Israeli airstrike on southern Lebanon, according to Lebanese officials and security sources.
The official National News Agency reported that an Israeli drone carried out an airstrike targeting a person while he was carrying out maintenance work on the roof of a house in the village of Rab El Thalathine in Marjeyoun in southeast Lebanon.
A Lebanese security source identified the victim as Ahmad Faqih, a Hezbollah member.
According to the source, "the Lebanese army is working on fortifying a position that it had established on Friday to the east of the village of Houla" near the border, about 700 meters from an Israeli position that was set up on the Lebanese side opposite the Israeli border settlement of Misgav Am.
The attack comes as part of Israel's continued attacks on Lebanon, despite the ceasefire agreement with Hezbollah, sponsored by the United States and France, which has been in effect since Nov. 27, 2024.
Despite the agreement, the Israeli army occasionally carries out strikes in Lebanon, claiming they are to remove Hezbollah "threats," and it also maintains positions at five main points along the Lebanese border. ■
