CAIRO, Jan. 30 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty spoke Friday by phone with European Union (EU) High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas to discuss regional developments and de-escalation strategies.

Abdelatty emphasized the urgent need to reduce regional tensions to prevent instability, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement. He called for diplomatic solutions and political settlements, urging a resumption of U.S.-Iran dialogue on the nuclear issue that respects the interests of all parties.

Kallas praised Egypt's constructive role in supporting regional security and stability, affirming that Egypt remains a key partner for the European Union, according to the statement.

On Thursday, EU foreign ministers agreed to add Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to the bloc's terrorist list. Iran condemned the move, describing it as a "hostile and provocative" decision.

U.S. President Donald Trump said a "massive armada," led by the aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln, is heading toward Iran, warning that "time is running out" for Tehran to reach a deal with the United States.
