TEHRAN/BAKU, Jan. 30 (Xinhua) -- Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and his Azerbaijani counterpart, Jeyhun Bayramov, on Thursday exchanged views on tensions in the region in the wake of the U.S. military buildup, according to the foreign ministries of both countries.

In a phone call on Thursday night, Araghchi expounded on the regional developments, the threats posed by the "destructive" U.S. intervention and Israel's "domineering" actions, highlighting the collective responsibility of all regional states to counter threats against peace and stability.

Bayramov firmly reaffirmed that Azerbaijan will never permit its airspace or territory to be used by any state for military operations against neighboring Iran or any other country, stressing that disputes should be addressed solely through dialogue and diplomacy, in accordance with international law.

Both sides also agreed to strengthen relations and cooperation.

U.S. President Donald Trump said Wednesday that a "massive armada," headed by the Aircraft Carrier Abraham Lincoln and larger than the one sent to Venezuela, is heading toward Iran, and warned Tehran that "time is running out" to make a deal with the United States.
