SEOUL, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's tech giant Samsung Electronics saw its revenue hit a record high last year thanks to strong demand for high-value-added semiconductors and surging memory chip prices, the company said Thursday.
The company's revenue grew 10.9 percent from a year earlier to reach an all-time high of 333.61 trillion won (233.3 billion U.S. dollars) in 2025.
Its operating profit jumped 33.2 percent to 43.60 trillion won (30.5 billion dollars), while the net income soared 31.2 percent to 45.21 trillion won (31.6 billion dollars).
For the October-December quarter of 2025, the operating profit more than tripled to 20.07 trillion won (14.0 billion dollars) compared to the same quarter of 2024.
The revenue gained 23.8 percent to 93.84 trillion won (65.6 billion dollars), and the net income spiked 153.3 percent to 19.64 trillion won (13.7 billion dollars) in the fourth quarter.
Both the revenue and the profit set all-time quarterly highs, driven by expanded sales of high-bandwidth memory (HBM) and other high-value-added products, as well as the overall market price surge.
Samsung's chip-making business recorded an operating profit of 16.4 trillion won (11.5 billion dollars) on revenue of 44.0 trillion won (30.8 billion dollars) in the quarter ending Dec. 31.
The company said it addressed strong conventional DRAM demand and expanded HBM sales amid an overall price increase, leading to the record quarterly revenue and operating profit in the memory chip business.
Earnings for the system LSI business declined on the back of seasonal demand softness and adjustments to customer product schedules, it noted.
Samsung expected the ongoing artificial intelligence (AI) boom to continue driving favorable market conditions for the memory business in the first quarter.
The display panel unit achieved an operating profit of 2.0 trillion won (1.4 billion dollars) with revenue of 9.5 trillion won (6.6 billion dollars) in the October-December quarter.
The performance of small and medium displays was solid due to supply stability and increased smartphone demand, with the expansion of sales in the IT and automotive segments contributing to earnings growth.
The large display business saw revenue growth on higher demand during the year-end peak season.
The mobile phone and networks unit generated an operating profit of 1.9 trillion won (1.3 billion dollars) on revenue of 29.3 trillion won (20.5 billion dollars).
Smartphone sales reduced in the fourth quarter amid the weakened launch effects of new models, despite a double-digit annual profit growth in 2025 through flagship smartphone growth and stable sales of tablets and wearables.
The TV and home appliance division posted an operating loss of 600 billion won (419.9 million dollars) with revenue of 14.8 trillion won (10.4 billion dollars).
TV profitability remained under pressure amid intense market competition that offset robust sales of premium TVs and peak seasonal demand in the fourth quarter.
Home appliance earnings shrank in the quarter as a result of low seasonal demand for air conditioners and shifting global trade conditions. ■
