BEIJING, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) -- China reported more precipitation and higher temperatures than average in 2025, according to the China Climate Bulletin 2025 released by the China Meteorological Administration on Thursday.

The bulletin revealed that the country's annual average temperature reached 10.9 degrees Celsius, tying with 2024 as the warmest year on record. The number of high-temperature days also hit a record high.

"China exhibited distinct warm and humid climate characteristics in 2025," said Huang Zhuo, deputy head of the National Climate Center, at a press conference.

National average precipitation rose 4.5 percent above the long-term average, making it a "wet year." Notably, rainfall during north China's rainy season reached record levels in terms of volume and duration.

The warm and wet conditions contributed to improved vegetation growth. The national average vegetation index during the growing season reached the highest level since the turn of the century, with robust growth observed in western parts of northeast China and the central and eastern parts of Inner Mongolia.

While climate conditions were generally favorable for major grain crops during their growth cycles, regional impacts from meteorological disasters such as heatwaves, drought, torrential rains and floods were significant, Huang noted.

The year 2025 was also marked by frequent extreme weather. A total of five typhoons made landfall or affected south China consecutively from September to October. Additionally, the number of windy days reached its highest since 1991, and sandstorm activities in spring were more frequent than usual.

According to the bulletin, the complex weather patterns and prominent climate anomalies in 2025 were the result of synergistic interactions between various atmospheric and oceanic factors across multiple time scales.
