DAR ES SALAAM, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) -- Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan on Thursday launched a national strategy to strengthen early literacy and numeracy among pre-primary children and pupils in Grades One and Two.
A statement from the Directorate of Presidential Communications said the strategy, known by its Kiswahili acronym KKK (Kusoma, Kuandika, na Kuhesabu, or reading, writing, arithmetic), aims to ensure children master basic reading, writing and arithmetic skills before reaching Grade Three.
Speaking at the launch in Dar es Salaam, President Hassan stressed that literacy and numeracy underpin all learning and urged effective implementation through coordinated efforts by relevant ministries.
Minister for Education, Science and Technology Adolf Mkenda said the strategy will be implemented over five years through 2030/2031, with annual evaluations to track progress. ■
