BRUSSELS, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) -- The European Union (EU) foreign ministers agreed on Thursday to add Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to the bloc's terrorist list, EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas said.
Kallas said earlier that the move would trigger tougher restrictions and sanctions, which include a few individuals accused of carrying out violence against protesters, as well as several entities.
The EU has already listed the IRGC under the Iran weapons of mass destruction sanctions regime. This subjects it to an asset freeze in the EU and prohibits making funds and economic resources available.
Recently, the EU has further stepped up pressure on Iran, aligning with the United States. ■
