GAZA, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- Members of the technocratic committee tasked with administering the Gaza Strip are preparing to enter the enclave to begin their work, a Palestinian source said Sunday.
The source, who is close to the committee and requested anonymity, told Xinhua that the members are expected to enter the strip Wednesday or Thursday, unless developments on the ground prevent their arrival.
U.S. officials and Nickolay Mladenov, "high representative for Gaza" of the U.S.-led "Board of Peace," have been in contact with the Israeli side to arrange the committee's entry into the enclave, the source said.
According to the source, the committee's headquarters will be located in the western part of the coastal enclave, an area from which Israeli forces have withdrawn.
The committee will begin its work immediately upon entering the Gaza Strip and will assume oversight of all administrative bodies in the enclave, the source added.
In its initial phase, the committee's work will focus on implementing emergency relief plans, increasing humanitarian aid, addressing the health sector, and attempting to resolve shortages of medicines and medical equipment.
This comes as Palestinian sources reported that three Palestinians were killed on Sunday by Israeli army fire in the Gaza Strip, while four others were wounded in a drone attack.
Baptist Hospital said in a press statement that two Palestinians were killed by Israeli army fire outside its deployment zones in the Tuffah neighborhood, east of Gaza City.
In a separate incident, Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis said in a press statement that a Palestinian was killed by Israeli army fire in the southern Gaza Strip.
Meanwhile, medical sources at Al-Shifa Hospital said that four people were wounded in a drone attack targeting the roof of a building previously damaged by Israeli shelling in central Gaza City.
The Israeli army has not commented on these incidents.
In a daily report, Gaza-based health authorities said the death toll since the ceasefire came into effect on Oct. 10, 2025, has risen to 484, with 1,321 wounded. This brings the total number of fatalities since Oct. 7, 2023, to 71,657, with 171,399 wounded. ■
