BEIJING, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- Beijing Municipality plans to further strengthen its position as the Chinese city with the longest subway network in 2026, while prioritizing commuter convenience, the city's mayor Yin Yong said on Sunday while delivering a government work report at the annual session of the Beijing Municipal People's Congress.
Beijing opened three new metro lines last year, adding 30 kilometers to the city's subway network. This brings the Chinese capital's total operational subway mileage to 909 kilometers, maintaining its status as China's most extensive urban rail system, the report noted.
Yin said the city aims to add more than 40 kilometers of subway tracks in 2026 and increase the share of bus-to-rail transfers within a 50-meter radius from 91 percent in 2025 to 93 percent. ■
