MANILA, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- Four minors were killed and three others injured in a collision between a trailer truck and a tricycle in Isabela province in the northern Philippines, police said Sunday.
Police said the crash occurred on Friday evening in Santiago City after a tricycle, driven by a 17-year-old and carrying six minors, allegedly made a sudden left turn and was struck by a truck traveling in the opposite lane.
The victims -- four siblings and their three cousins -- were rushed to a local hospital, where four were declared dead on arrival, police said. The three injured people have been undergoing treatment.
The initial police investigation showed that the tricycle was heading home from a grade school when the accident occurred.
Police have taken the truck driver into custody as investigators work to determine accountability for the incident.
A tricycle is a three-wheeled motorized vehicle in the Philippines, often used for short-distance public transport. ■
