ISLAMABAD, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- Six members of an armed robbery gang were killed in a police encounter in Pakistan's southern Sindh province on Thursday, police said.
The incident occurred in the provincial capital Karachi's Pak Colony neighborhood when police raided the area on a tip-off about the presence of a nine-member gang, according to a police statement.
Police said the suspects opened fire on law enforcement personnel, triggering a gunfight in which six suspects were killed.
Six pistols with ammunition, one rifle and two motorcycles were recovered from the scene, police said.
According to police, the gang was involved in multiple cases of robberies and street crimes. The suspects were also wanted for their alleged involvement in the killing of three brothers during a house robbery on Tuesday.
Two other members of the gang have already been arrested, while efforts are underway to trace the remaining accomplices, police said. ■
