DOHA, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- Qatar's Hamad International Airport handled 54.3 million passengers in 2025, up 3 percent from the previous year, the airport operator said on Wednesday.

The Gulf hub, home to flag carrier Qatar Airways, recorded 282,975 aircraft movements during the year, while cargo volumes reached 2.59 million tonnes, according to a statement by the airport operator.

The growth reflects Qatar's push to establish itself as a major tourism and transit hub, building on momentum from the 2022 FIFA World Cup and a series of international events hosted in Doha. Point-to-point traffic to and from the capital rose 5.4 percent, which the airport attributed to expanding tourism demand.

The airport worked with 57 airline partners in 2025, with several new carriers joining its network, the statement said, adding that infrastructure upgrades added 17 new contact gates, easing passenger flow during peak periods. The airport reported a passenger satisfaction rate of 98 percent.

Looking ahead to 2026, the airport said it would prioritize system optimisation and runway maintenance to support safe and efficient operations as traffic continues to grow.

The airport's expansion forms part of Qatar's National Vision 2030, which seeks to diversify the economy away from liquefied natural gas by strengthening the services and tourism sectors.
