GAZA, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- Five Palestinians were killed by Israeli fire, while a three-month-old infant died from exposure to cold in the Gaza Strip, Palestinian sources reported on Thursday.
Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City said four members of the same family were killed after an Israeli artillery shell hit the Zeitoun neighborhood, south of the city. In the southern Gaza Strip, a Palestinian man was shot dead by Israeli forces in the Bani Suheila area, east of Khan Younis, according to Nasser Medical Complex.
Local sources and eyewitnesses reported extensive demolition of homes by Israeli forces in areas east of Khan Younis, accompanied by gunfire from Israeli helicopters. Military vehicles also reportedly opened machine-gun fire toward eastern parts of the Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza, while Israeli warplanes carried out several airstrikes in the northern Gaza Strip.
There was no immediate comment from the Israeli military.
Also in the day, Gaza health authorities confirmed the death of three-month-old Ali Abu Zur due to the cold wave affecting displaced persons' camps.
According to the authorities' daily report, 11 Palestinian bodies were received by hospitals in the past 24 hours, along with seven people injured to varying degrees. Since the ceasefire agreement took effect on October 10, 2025, 477 Palestinians have been killed and 1,301 wounded. Overall, the Israeli offensive since October 7, 2023 has killed 71,562 Palestinians and injured 171,379. ■
