COLOMBO, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- Air quality dropped to unhealthy levels in several parts of Sri Lanka on Wednesday morning, prompting authorities to urge the public to be cautious.
The National Building Research Organization (NBRO) said the Air Quality Index (AQI) fell to unhealthy levels in Sri Lanka's administrative capital, Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte, Polonnaruwa, Anuradhapura, Vavuniya, Puttalam and Galle.
It warned that residents in these areas could experience health effects, while people in sensitive groups may face more serious impacts.
The NBRO advised the public to seek medical attention if air quality conditions lead to breathing difficulties, particularly among vulnerable individuals. ■
