PHNOM PENH, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia's total import of diesel, gasoline, and combustion gas amounted to 2.43 billion U.S. dollars in 2025, down 9.6 percent from the year before, its Ministry of Commerce said on Wednesday.

The country spent 1.26 billion dollars for importing diesel last year, down 11 percent year-on-year; 840 million dollars for gasoline, down 11.2 percent; and 334 million dollars on combustion gas, slightly down 0.1 percent, the report said.

Currently, the Southeast Asian country entirely relies on the imports of oil and gas.

Thong Mengdavid, deputy director at the China-ASEAN Studies Center of the Cambodia University of Technology and Science, said the decline of imports suggested easing global oil prices, enhanced energy efficiency, and the growing role of renewable energy in domestic consumption.

"Looking ahead, Cambodia's energy security strategy, through diversification of energy sources and regional power connectivity, could further reduce the kingdom's dependence on imported fossil fuels, aligning with its green growth goals," he told Xinhua.
