MOSCOW, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- Russian security agencies have thwarted a planned terrorist attack in the southeastern city of Ufa, with one suspect killed and another detained, local media reported on Wednesday.
Quoted by the TASS news agency, Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) said two members of a terrorist organization banned in Russia were preparing an attack targeting police in Ufa, capital of the Republic of Bashkortostan.
The suspects had planned to make an improvised explosive device to attack law enforcement personnel, according to the report.
The FSB said a suspect opened fire on officers and was neutralized in the ensuing exchange of gunfire. An automatic rifle was found in his possession. No officers or civilians were injured in the operation. ■
