TEHRAN, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Monday that what took place in Iran over the past days was in continuation of the "failed bids" by the United States and Israel, according to a statement published on the website of the Iranian president's office.
Pezeshkian made the remarks in a phone call with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. He reiterated that the Iranian government is committed to promoting convergence, solidarity and unity among all Iranian groups, parties, ethnicities and religions, as well as relations with neighboring and Muslim states. He also praised Pakistan's efforts to de-escalate tensions in the region.
Sharif said Iran is "an important and influential country in the region" and emphasized that Pakistan is fully prepared to play its role in de-escalating tensions and resolving issues in the region. ■
