ADDIS ABABA, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf congratulated Senegal for winning the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after beating Morocco 1-0 in Sunday's final.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Youssouf described Senegal's victory as "well-earned" and the final as a "fitting and memorable" conclusion to the tournament.
Youssouf added that the tournament reflected the highest standards of African football, competitiveness, and continental pride.
"AFCON has once again demonstrated that the beautiful game is a powerful force for unity, bringing Africans together across cultures, borders, and generations," he said.
"The successful hosting of AFCON once again reflects Africa's growing capacity to stage world-class sporting events that unite the continent and inspire global admiration," concluded Youssouf, who attended Sunday's final in Morocco. ■
