OSLO, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen said on Sunday that European countries are coordinating their response to U.S. President Donald Trump's tariff threats over Greenland, and that he has no doubt about support from Europe.

Rasmussen made the remarks at a press conference here after meeting with his Norwegian counterpart Espen Barth Eide. The two ministers, who appeared jointly before reporters, presented a united front on Greenland against U.S. tariff threats.

"We will not yield to pressure," Eide said.

"I have no doubt about the support from Europe," even if a tariff war would impose significant costs on other European Union (EU) members, Rasmussen said.

He added that while some agreements were reached with the U.S. following recent talks at the White House, a coordinated response remains essential. "We are not cooperating unilaterally," he said.

Trump announced on Saturday that the United States would impose a 10 percent tariff from Feb. 1 on goods from Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, Britain, the Netherlands and Finland over Greenland, and raise the levy to 25 percent from the beginning of June unless a deal is reached for the United States to purchase the territory.

Greenland, the world's largest island, is a self-governing territory within the Kingdom of Denmark, with Copenhagen retaining control over defense and foreign policy. The United States maintains a military base on the island. Since returning to office in 2025, Trump has repeatedly expressed a desire to "obtain" Greenland.
