TEHRAN, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) -- Iranian schools will reopen on Sunday after a one-week closure, Iranian Students' News Agency reported on Saturday.

"Schools in Tehran and other cities which were announced closed since January 10 will be resumed from tomorrow," said the report.

The resumption comes as the country works to restore order following weeks of nationwide protests triggered by currency devaluation and soaring prices, which eventually escalated into violence.

As the United States repeatedly threatened to intervene, Iran imposed emergency measures such as an internet blackout and suspended education activities.

Earlier on Saturday, Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei accused the United States of planning the unrest with the aim of "swallowing up Iran," and said his country had "extinguished the sedition."
