JERUSALEM, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed Friday that it killed a Palestinian with army fire in the village of al-Mughayyir, central West Bank.
In a statement, the IDF said its soldiers were dispatched to al-Mughayyir after receiving a report of individuals throwing stones toward Israelis, burning tires, and blocking roads.
It said one "terrorist" was seen running toward soldiers while holding a rock, posing an "imminent threat," and was shot after warning shots were fired.
Meanwhile, the Palestinian Ministry of Health, in a brief statement, identified the dead as 14-year-old Palestinian Mohammed al-Nassan, saying he was killed by Israeli live ammunition during its military raid in al-Mughayyir.
Palestinian sources and eyewitnesses told Xinhua that Israeli forces stormed the village before Friday prayers, opened fire, and later fired tear gas and stun grenades at worshippers leaving a mosque.
Earlier on Friday, the IDF said it arrested three people near Kafr Malik town, central West Bank, overnight, after they allegedly threw an explosive device and a Molotov cocktail, and shot and arrested two others near Nablus, who were allegedly preparing to throw Molotov cocktails.
The IDF also said that it is operating "at peak readiness" and has strengthened its capabilities along all borders, amid recent regional developments. ■
