WASHINGTON, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- The White House on Friday announced members of the so-called "Board of Peace" for Gaza that intends to implement the 20-point peace plan proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump for the conflict-torn strip.

A founding executive board includes U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff, Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, the White House said in a statement. Trump chairs the board under the peace plan he unveiled last September.

Each member will oversee a portfolio covering governance, diplomacy and reconstruction, said the statement.

Nickolay Mladenov, a former UN envoy to the Middle East, will serve as high representative for Gaza and act as the main link between the Board of Peace and Gaza's new administration, it said.

It added that to address security, Major General Jasper Jeffers has been appointed commander of the International Stabilization Force tasked with maintaining peace, supporting demilitarization and enabling the delivery of humanitarian aid and reconstruction materials.

Trump said Thursday that as chairman of the board, he is backing Palestinian leaders to govern Gaza during the transition.

He said the United States is working with Egypt, Türkiye and Qatar to secure a comprehensive demilitarization agreement with Hamas, including the surrender of all weapons and the dismantling of its tunnel network.
