JERUSALEM, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- Israel and the United States on Friday launched here a strategic partnership on artificial intelligence (AI) to boost cooperation in research, development, and securing technology supply chains, according to the Israeli Prime Minister's Office.

The partnership falls within a broader U.S.-led framework known as Pax Silica, designed to boost joint efforts among U.S. allies in AI development and supply chain security.

A joint statement on the partnership was signed by Erez Eskel, head of Israel's National AI Directorate, and Jacob Helberg, U.S. under secretary of state for economic affairs, in the presence of Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar and U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee.

Eskel said the partnership would promote cooperation on high-performance computing infrastructure and the development of human capital for Israel's AI industry, in collaboration with academia and the private sector.

Huckabee, for his part, said that the two countries would continue to expand cooperation in strategic fields including AI, energy technology, advanced computing, space, additive manufacturing, and semiconductors.
