KATHMANDU, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- Foreign direct investment (FDI) commitments in Nepal increased in the first half of the current fiscal year 2025-26 compared with the same period in the previous fiscal year, a government agency said on Friday.

The commitment worth 39.23 billion Nepali rupees (270.08 million U.S. dollars) was made between mid-July and mid-January, a rise from 25.77 billion rupees during the first six months of fiscal year 2024-25, the Department of Industry said, adding that the pledged amount is for 475 various types of projects aiming to create 20,122 jobs.

While the agriculture sector has received the highest pledge by amount, the information and communication technology (ICT) sector leads in the number of projects. A total of 1.07 billion rupees has been pledged for 257 ICT-based projects, compared with 21.88 billion rupees for 13 agriculture-based projects, according to the department.
